Mary Jo Ignoffo, author of Captive of the Labyrinth: Sarah L. Winchester,
Heiress to the Rifle Fortune
 is a historian committed to presenting history to the public through exhibits, books, articles, lectures and forums. She has spent much of the last twenty years researching and writing about California and community history. Her Gold Rush Politics is a lively narrative about California's First Legislature, convened in 1849 just as the Gold Rush erupted. The book was selected as the Sesquicentennial project of the California State Senate.

Ignoffo consults with historical museums in Santa Clara County, carrying out research and writing for both permanent and changing exhibits. She has been curator for more than ten installations at the California History Center at De Anza College in Cupertino. Her articles have appeared in the San Jose Mercury News, Santa Clara Magazine, and The Californian.

Mary Jo Ignoffo has authored five books and teaches history at De Anza College.
